Whilst there’s still plenty to play for on the pitch – the summer transfer window is approaching. An exciting time for fans, we dive into just how much Ten Hag might have to spend this summer.
With the ownership situation still unclear, it’s likely United will need to sell to buy. Especially considering there is a reported FFP limitation of £120m net spend for this summer window.
For a detailed look at all those players on the fringes, see The Great Clearout.

With a certain result against a certain rival club still fresh on the minds of United fans – it’s perhaps clearer than ever the squad still needs improving. Let’s looks at those who can be sold, how much for, and what that frees up on the wage bill.
Format: Name, Fee lower-higher estimate, wages.
Dean Henderson, £20m-£35m, £100k
Eric Bailly, £6m-£10m, £85k
Alex Telles, £0m, £78k
De Gea, £0m, £150k (renewed contract saving)
Harry Maguire, £30m-£45m, £190k
Phil Jones, £0m, £70k
Axel Tuanzebe, £0m-£3m, £48k
Brandon Williams, £6m-£8m, £65k
Van De Beek, £15m-£22m, £100k
Anthony Martial, £10m-£20m, £200k
Scott McTominay, £18m-£30m, £78k
Cristiano Ronaldo, £0m, £450k
Conservatively then it’s estimated £108m can be added to the transfer kitty with sales, rising to £153m with well negotiated sales.
Perhaps more significantly the wage bill can be considerably reduced this summer. With Ronaldo’s reported £450k removed, there’s a total of just over £1.6m a week to be trimmed.
With Rashford, Dalot, Garnacho and Fred all reportedly having their contracts renewed a proportion of these funds will be allocated here. Let’s allocated an extra £200k a week for these renewals.
United can therefore expect a transfer war chest of over £238m and an excess on the wage bill of £1.4m a week on wages – enough for 3 or 4 significant summer signings.
